We apologize, but the action alert you are attempting to access is no longer active.
This action alert called on NY residents to contact members of the Assembly Ways & Means Committee to show support for A 4971, a bill waiting for a hearing in the Assembly Ways & Means Committee that would have modernized the state ATV definition by increasing the weight limit from 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. This definition update would have allowed recreational off-highway vehicles (also known as side-by-sides) weighing up to 1,500 pounds to be registered in New York and ridden on appropriate ATV trails in the state.
Currently, all-terrain vehicles that weigh more than 1,000 lbs. cannot be registered and may only be ridden on private property.
In the end, the Committee did not vote on this bill. The New York legislature has adjourned for the year, but we may ask you for more emails on this issue in the coming months.
