Original Action Alert:

Contact Your Senator on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in Support of S. 486

Last month ARRA alerted you that S. 486, the Preserving Public Access to Cape Hatteras Beaches Act, was being voted on by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee – but the bill was pulled from consideration at the last minute. Now the legislation is again scheduled to be voted on by the Committee on Tuesday, June 18. Please click the Send Message button below to send an email in support of the bill to your Senator who is a member of the Committee.

It is vitally important that you weigh in as the Energy and Natural Resources Committee has jurisdiction over this issue and while this area may not be in your backyard the next access issue may well hit closer to home.

Background:

S. 486 would reinstate the Interim Management Plan for Species Management and overturn a final rule implemented by the National Park Service in February 2012 that inappropriately and unnecessarily restricts vehicle access to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area.

Upon introducing the bill Senator Burr said, “Restricting ORV use on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore negatively impacts local communities and the local economy. We must not block our citizens’ access to North Carolina’s scenic treasures. I am confident we can come to a compromise that allows people to have access while at the same time addressing any potential environmental concerns.”
